Tofte Township is one of the three townships of Cook County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 226 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Tofte is located within the township. ==Geography== According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 162.6 square miles (421.0 km²), of which, 154.6 square miles (400.3 km²) of it is land and 8.0 square miles (20.7 km²) of it (4.92%) is water. The township is located on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Minnesota Highway 61 serves as a main route in the township. The community of Tofte is located 27 miles southwest of the city of Grand Marais; and 56 miles northeast of the city of Two Harbors. Temperance River State Park, Ray Berglund State Wayside Park, and the Carlton Peak Lookout are all located within the township. The Superior Hiking Trail and the Gitchi-Gumi State Trail both run through the township.
